The Gilded Life of Matilda Duplaine
by Alex Brunkhorst
After Thomas Cleary, an aspiring journalist, gets fired from his job in New York he moves to Los Angeles to start over. There he gets involved in the high society of the film industry and their high lifestyle.
In particular, he is asked to interview the wealthy daughter of a top producer, who has just passed away. They become friends and she introduces him to her circle of a variety of the well-to-do , rich residents of the Bel Air district and their luxurious lifestyle.
A chance meeting leads him to meet Matilda Duplaine, a young woman, who has lived in seclusion and never left the fabulous Bel Air estate of her father, a top producer, David Duplaine. She has been hidden away all her life, and no one seems to know of her existence. Gradually Thomas and Matilda fall in love amid much secrecy.
No one must know about their love affair or that they are meeting.
Why does no one seem to know she exists?
Why has she never left the grounds?
The Investigative journalist Thomas wants to know all the answers and so he delves into the mystery of Matilda knowing that it might lead to the loss of his job and even his love.
A very interesting book that takes a while to get going but when it does it holds your attention just as the Great Gatsby does.
I can see this one being made into a movie at some time.
