A visit to Lake Murray, OK

September 2017.
Front entry

It was a  beautiful early Fall day so we decided to have a day visit to beautiful Lake Murray in Oklahoma, just over the border of Texas. This is an easy drive for us, about 80 miles. The lake looked calm, blue and beautiful and there were a few boats on the lake and it is a lovely place to sit and enjoy the view walk. fish or stay.

We really wanted to see how the new lodge they had just opened looked and felt and if it was a place we would like to go to stay for a short visit sometime soon.

Back of the lodge

We had been to the lake before many years ago and at that time we were camping and it was very rural and just a lovely peaceful area. It was still unspoiled with few people using the campgrounds and only a few boats on the lake.

We were somewhat disappointed as the new lodge is built in a very modern style and although lovely in the decor and style of building, doesn't quite match the feeling of "lodge" in our eyes. We were impressed with the spacious entry and the large rooms which a staff member kindly showed us.We were also happy to see that they all had a small balcony and all rooms we were told, faced the lake. The lodge had only just been opened for business and the staff told us they were already getting full bookings especially for weekends.

We had previously thought we could buy lunch in the lovely restaurant. The menu which you can find on the lodge's web page looks good with lots of choices but when we got there, found they were still sorting out problems in the kitchen area so no lunch there that day. As you can see by the photos they are not really quite ready to go yet as a fully functioning lodge.

Still, it was a nice day out and we ended up eating a great lunch at our favorite Chinese lunch in Denton! Always a treat.
