(the book not the Grandmother!)
Looking on one of my frequently used bookshelves. I found this book that had been given to us by Mike's Mother. I hadn't really looked at it much before but what I found what very interesting.
It was over 100 years old having being published in 1914 and given out by a local company" The Home and Colonial Stores.
Originally given to Mike's Grandmother, this was a very early book given out to help children understand English history but also to teach them to read.
I find the technique of splitting words into syllables,( Pre-tor-I-a) rather clever as I know long words are very difficult for children to read at first.
The book relates to the history of England but
stops before the first World War in 1914.
