The Tenth Gift by Jane Johnson

The Tenth Gift by Jane Johnson

Set both in modern times and delving into the 17th-century history of Cornwall and Morocco, this is a great book for both history and mystery lovers alike.
Julia is given a book written in 1625  full on embroidery details and patterns. Julia, an embroider by trade, on looking at the book discovers that around the margins someone has written notes.
These notes are details of the life history of a Cornish girl, Catherine Tregenna.  Julia finds that this girl was one of the Cornish people that Barbary pirates kidnapped from the far southern coast of England during a raid and took back to Morocco to sell as a slave. Catherine  writes of her experiences during her sea voyage and her life after.
Julia is enthralled by the mystery of the life of the young embroiderer. Catherine is destined to be auctioned off in the Moroccan slave markets but her skill saves her as she is taken in by a rich merchant in order to teach the young women of Morocco her skills..
Catherines fiance in Cornwall raises the money to buy her release  from slavery but needs to go to Morocco to find her  which he does but will he be able to get her release?
Julia wants to find out if this all really happened and then did Catherine ever get back to England.
You will have to read the book to find out.
The book is based on the actual events that took place in the seventeenth century.
