The Humminbird by Stephen P. Kiernan

The Humminbird by Stephen P. Kiernan

A very thoughtful and interesting book of a hospice nurse, Deborah, who is dealing with both her injured soldier husband, Michael , just returned from Iraq with a severe case of PTSD while at the same time coping with her newest patient, a very unloving and unforgiving, ex-history professor Barclay Reed dying with kidney cancer.
Both men need her healing touch and understanding so despite  their  unwilling attitudes, Deborah sets out to give them both her loving care and  a way for Michael to heal and Barclay to have a peaceful and satisfying end to his life .
Making peace with Barclay comes first which she does by fulfilling his wish to read one of his unpublished and unfinished books to him each day. It is a book about a little-known incident which supposedly happened during WWII,concerning a Japanese bombing incident in Brookings, Oregon.
In their discussions about the story, Barclay gives her ideas on assisting Michael with conquering his present demons and making their life whole again.

A thoughtful, incisive book that certainly holds your attention, is easy to read and tells many truths.
