Book Blog catch up

The Tea Planters Wife by Dinah Jefferies.

A story of an English woman's marriage to a tea planter living in colonial Ceylon. The story starts with Gwen getting off the boat with great expectations about her marriage. She has had a wonderful, romantic wedding but not much information about the life she will lead when she will be living in Ceylon.
She loves her new husband but knows little about him or his background and what his lifestyle is really like.
She has to cope with a treacherous,  resentful sister in law, still living in the house, and  unanswered questions about her husband's first marriage and the death of his wife and child. Her main job will be care and control of the house and dealing with the servants and local customs without knowing the spoken languages. Add to that, the local Sinhalese people and the Tamils who are the native plantation workers, are  resentful of each other and unrest is feared.

An interesting book of a country that I haven't read about before in an intriguing story. This is
 a real page -turner.
