Town square at ST Jo |
It was only about 10miles from Muenster to St Jo so we were there very quickly. You can't help noticing as you drive along HWY 82 the vast array of wind turbines alongside the road generating electricity. Seeing the fierce winds coming across the open fields that seemed like a great idea to me.
Saloon and Restaurant , where we ate lunch |
We headed for the town square as we now know that in most of these old towns of Texas, that is where you find most activity in the town.
St Jo has a very different feeling that Muenster. It was still a little sleepy place and the city square had a few businesses around it, most of which were closed. I picked up a brochure and it seems there are plenty of activities throughout the year. The scenery to the north is known as a place of natural beauty and is referred to as the North Texas Hill country.

We looked through some of the windows of the closed stores that surround the square. Most only open for part of the week if they open at all.The Stonewall Saloon Museum, an authentic 1873 saloon would have been interesting to visit but it only opens at the weekends.
I liked the pig better |
We did go into one of the art galleries and just loved the work we saw there, It had been done by mostly local or Texas artists and there was some excellent work here.
Then it was time for lunch so we went into the Lazy Heart Grill and were served two very large meals of excellent food and a great cup of freshly brewed coffee.
A very interesting place to visit.
Impressive house, but seems it was a private residence. |
Just a lovely day out.
We must do more Day trips.
