An unusual visitor
We have all kinds of birds visiting our garden , flying and nesting in the trees and bushes and eating from the bird feeders we have. When we saw a beautiful pigeon on the closest feeder to our summer room we were very interested as we had never seen pigeons visiting before.
Naturally we see them around the area but mostly near more urban areas and in flocks in the parks. We do have morning doves from time to time but never a pigeon.
We have just had a few storms with high winds passing through the area and I began to wonder if it was a racing or homing bird that had been blown off-course.
Mike crept out the back door and quickly took some photos before the bird flew off. When we looked at the photos we could see the band on the bird's leg but unfortunately not the number so that would could search for the owner so this obviously was not a wild bird.
The bird ate a lot of bird seed and returned the next day to again stock up on food and water before he flew away.
I haven't seen him since so I hope he went home.
