Still Alice by Lisa Genova
I remember when I saw that this movie was being released. I really wanted to see it as it had good reviews but I missed it. Then I saw the book at a book sale and so I bought it.
It is an exceptional book telling the tale of a woman affected with early Alzheimer's Disease.I thought the book might be rather heavy and technical to read but it was anything but. It gets into the feelings and excellent descriptions of how the patient is feeling and acting told from her standpoint with reflections from her family.
Alice knows some of the signs of this disease and how it affects mainly older people but Alice is a younger person in her mid-forties, smart, intellectual and a professor of cognitive and linguistic studies at Harvard. She realizes early that something is definitely wrong with her and first ignores but then examines possibilities and so tries to chart her way through the rest of her life as she gets to understand the disease. Her family has to adapt to help her but her husband and children, after trials and errors, find a way to be as supportive as they can be in a very difficult situation.
A very readable novel with a lot of good information.
I will still try to see the movie but I am betting the book will be better.
