It was such a lovely day for January in NorthTexas, 80 degrees, blue sky and sunshine, that we decided we would spend a day out in the country. We took off to visit a couple of small towns up by the Red River which marks the northern border between Texas and Oklahoma.
Muenster is a small town, set in mostly cattle and oil country on the edge of the rolling plains. We opted to take the country roads to get there as it is much more fun in a convertible BMW than to take the 2 major highways that service that area. The countryside is mostly flat and has very little traffic but a great deal of wind,- "the wind comes sweeping down the plain etc." and you certainly could feel it. A nice way to travel.

You can tell immediately by the shops, names, businesses and even the houses that this area was settled mostly by Germans. It was a very sleepy little town, not many people about the main area but I am sure that changes during other times of the year. They often have events and celebrate the German heritage and then many people will visit as it is quite an attraction.
One place we did make sure to visit was Fischers Meat Market, a very well known German supermarket with an old country atmosphere, selling specialty meats, sausages, cheeses and beers and lots of interesting German foods. Fortunately, Mike had brought his freezer bag with him so we stocked up on goodies to bring home with us.
It had only taken about 90minutes to get there so we decided then to travel on to a neighboring town, St Jo for lunch.
